From the Zune Terms & Conditions:

"If you violate this Code of Conduct or the Zune Terms of Service, action may be taken against your account. Some offenses warrant an immediate account cancellation without warning. If you create an inappropriate Zune Tag you may be required to change it. If you use an inappropriate motto, we may delete it and you may be temporarily locked out of your account. If we are notified that you have posted inappropriate content of any kind, it will be removed, and your account may be suspended or terminated."

This proves that Microsoft CAN change the Zune Tag, if necessary. It also proves that they have the ability to terminate an account.

I'm waiting for the fix as well...

hey man, i share the same problem. last Feb, i just bought a Zune 30. Went ahead and did the online registration and didnt pay a darn attention to the Zunetag ID - so i just put it as the same as my username @hotmail.com. No biggie right... Wrong!. I just bought an Xbox360 and Mannn... I shud have paid attention to my Zunetag ID as it is the same as Xbox Live ID. Now i have to pay 800 MS Points just to rename it. No thanks Mr./Ms. Designer-behind-this-Zune-&-Xbox-Identity-Management piece. Here we are preaching about Identity Lifecycle Management, AD, SQL what-have-you to customers and yet this kind of limitations still exist. Sorry for the rant but someone need to fix this issue ASAP!
