I think that I’m that last blogger on the planet to use Technorati… and that’s after I met Tantek last year at Mix 06. I even think that he even gave me a sticker. Anyways… here’s my Technorati Profile. Not sure all that let’s me do now. But we shall see.

These caught my eye earlier today… which may simultaneously explain why I have so many t-shirts in my closet and why my wife no longer lets me buy my own clothes.

From the creators of Community-Credit comes the informative, yet entertaining, Real Technology Heroes. I met David last week at the MVP Summit and he introduced me to his newest site. I love this concept, mainly because I'm such a fan of the original “Real American Heroes“ and “Real Men of Genius” commercials from Bud-Light. Go check out “Mr. I can build a better version of asp.net better than Microsoft" or “Mr. Select * from tablename example Guy“. This is sure to be instant classic!
View all heroes here, or submit your own!

Giovanni should be happy... it looks like the Zune team is going to fix (read: try and fix) skipping issue. Skipping issue? What makes you think that there might be a skipping issue with the Zune?
http://zuneinsider.com/archive/2007/02/28/zune-firmware-update-1-3-coming-mid-march-skipping-fixed.aspx
To be fair... I have nev..vv..vvv..vv..er had any problems with my Zune, but that's probably because I have so much music already, that I'm not using the Zune marketplace yet. Now, if only they would get on the stick and add podcatching support, and video to the marketplace! Then I might reconsider my marketplace free Zune.

The International .NET Association of North America (INETA NorAm) recently had their elections. Their board of directors is made up of volunteers from through out the .NET community. These people donate their time and energies to help make INETA and .NET User groups from all over succeed.
I haven’t heard about all of the new officers, but I did just find out that David Walker from Tulsa is the new Vice President of the Speaker’s Bureau and that Darrell Hawley from Detroit is the new Vice President of Marketing. Josh Holmes and I were just talking about all of the great work that Darrell was doing in community. Darrell and I were actually nominated for the same board spot. I’ve never met Darrell in person, but we’ve spoken several times on the phone and he is definitely a top notch guy with a lot of energy and drive that he’s going to take to INETA. My hat’s off to him!
Woot! Congratulations all around!
Update #1: Congrats to Amanda for being the new President! I first met Amanda at TechEd 2005, and I’m glad to see how much she keeps contributing to the community!
Update #2: I’ll be meeting with David in the morning to give him his Zune, and to interview him about INETA, the new board. his recent trip to Seattle, running the Tulsa TechFest, CodeCamp, .NET User Group, Java User Group, he just had a baby (number 4) and oh yeah.. I think he works for IBM somewhere in the middle there. It should make for good CommunityCast.tv

(CommunityCast Events)

This is going to be an incredible weekend for .NET! While the rest of the world will be flocking to TED or SXSW, the real developers will descend on Tulsa for the first ever Tulsa Code Camp. Of course Tulsa is no noob to tech events. Last October they hosted the, now infamous, TulsaTechFest. This Saturday is shaping up to have a similar outcome.
Presenters? Check out this line up! David Walker (president of the TulsaDeveloper.NET group and organizer TulsaTechFest) has pulled together another incredible group of speakers: Marc Mercuri from Microsoft, Claudio Lassala from EPS Software (The publishers of CoDe Magazine), Robert Boedigheimer lead architect from The Schawn Food Company, Keith Nicholson from KSDynamics, Raymond Lewallen (of CodeBetter fame) and BJ Pohl from Geniant and the Guerilla Programmer himself Jake Watkins.
Topics?! Check out these topics! LINQ, Windows Workflow, Multithreading, IIS7, ASP.NET Adapters, OO Design and Development, Windows Presentation Foundation, Design Patterns, BizTalk, C# 3.0.
I’ll be there to shoot some interviews for CommunityCast.tv. I’m especially looking forward to interviewing Marc Mercuri, hopefully he’ll be able to clear up some questions that came out of the conversations last night after the Dallas DNUG .NET 3.0 Community Launch. (Tim Rayburn loves WCS, but he wants Microsoft to convince him that it’s not the step child to the rest of .NET – is there a real managed WCS provider anywhere! I hope to get that answered tomorrow by the man that should know!)

I tend to be an idea man. So here is a list of my latest Earth changing ideas. Most of these, I’ve wanted to do for a couple of years now. Some of these I just thought of last week. (I’ll let you decide which is which).
- A CardSpace to OpenID Bridge. (Similar in concept to http://idproxy.net – thanks Adam for turning me on to Id Proxy!)
- Windows Live ID to OpenID Bridge (Similar in concept to http://idproxy.net – Thanks Adam for turning me on to Id Proxy!)
- Distributed Traffic Monitoring System that receives its input from individual’s participating in the system (community) via handheld GPS, Network mobile devices. (SmartPhone/ PocketPCs) I love this idea. I am completely frustrated with the systems that exist today, plus they only focus on the major freeways… I would love a distributed system that grows with the people, and then also helps you discover side routes and see how those are flowing as well.
- Anonymous, Secure and Authorized networking protocol. – This would almost be a requirement to do idea number 3! Imagine authenticating with a service, so that you a trusted connection – but they never know who you actually are. This would almost certainly require a trusted authentication service, like the wireless network providers.
- MetaBlog for DNN Blog – This shouldn’t be that hard. I wish I could use one of the many offline clients for publishing blog articles!
- Tag Cloud for DNN Blog: implement a tagging system for the DNN Blog Module (and a Tag Cloud and Tag Search Module) – Community Server, Das Blog, Word Press… oh how I envy thee.
- DNN Role Protector – The idea hear is to have roles in DNN that are semi-public. You would need to know a fact, or have a password that was obtained offline. This actually should be a pretty straight forward module. It would be great for securing semi-private areas of a public blog... like personal and family information. It would also be great for allowing organizations to have semi-private groups. Like church small groups, or UG study groups.
- DNN Role Administration Delegate Module. See number 7. This would allow you to assign a non-administrator to run a group. They could add and remove people from that DNN Role, and possibly even create new users that are already in that role.
- DNN Offline Registration Smart Client (Skinnable with DNN Skins) – This would be great for groups that manage their membership through DNN. I always wanted an app that I could run at a user group, or at an MSDN Event that would allow people to sign up on the site (and for the newsletter) right there. This is another application/module combination that would be pretty straight forward… it’s just a matter of time!
- My.Vista – Cory is the one that got me thinking about this, and I love the idea! According to Somasegar’s blog, there are over 7,000 new API’s in Vista for developers! Here’s the kicker. None of these are necessarily wrapped in .NET yet. Why? Because .NET 2.0 was built for Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 and those API’s aren’t necessarily there. So, Cory and I will be discussing a My.Vista extension with a group of MVP’s next week in Redmond. This could be a very exiting new project!
- Idea Factory… OK, this blog entry just got me thinking. Wouldn’t it be great to have a public place where people could post all of their ideas that they don’t have time for, and then anyone that was so inclined could follow up on those ideas? Maybe that’s just called the Internet.
That’s it for now. Ok, so most of these aren’t necessarily Earth changing, but I think that some of them could be.
What are your ideas? I’d love to hear about them.
Also, if you feel like you’d like to take one of these on… let me know, I’d love to work with you on that. Or, if any of these already exist – please let me know!
Thanks – now go change the world!
- Caleb

This blog post got me thinking about other things that I haven’t had time for lately. Namely, some of the topics that I really want to blog on but just haven’t had time for- and I’m not going to blame twitter.
These are pretty random thoughts that I might develop in to full blog posts in the next couple of days (or weeks... who knows.)
· Outsourcing My Social Network to Linked In
· Keep Your Code Clean – Thoughts on Maintainable and Readable Source Code.
· Get a Mentor – Why you should be mentored by someone. – This might become an MSDN Article... maybe.
· The expanding community and social media.
· Who’s Who and Why I wish that DNN Blog supported tagging!
· Hyper Community: Twitter is the strong juice
Mostly unrelated, but definitely worth the read:

With everything else going on this month, I almost forgot! I’m heading to the Dallas .NET Users Group tonight for their official Community Launch of .NET 3.0 / Vista and Office 2007! I’m looking forward to a great night of coding and fun! If you’re in the Dallas area, you should stop by. It’s at the Microsoft Las Colinas Office.
